Hibiscus sketches: brush and ink

This post is dedicated to one of my rituals which coincides with my weekend store at the Rose Street Artists Market. A block away from the market is a house brimming with hibiscus plants in the front yard. A wonderful sight.

It has become a bit of a habit of mine to gather the trodden flowers, already fallen from the tree, take them to my stall and spend some time during the morning painting their likeness with ink and a fine brush. The details in the semi dried flowers are sublime and really go a great distance in helping my brain focus early in the morning. It seems a shame that the flowers are usually not noticed once fallen.
